Sing and dance!

"The Hokey Pokey Shake" is a song to learn and review the parts of the body (hands, hand, foot, feet, head and backside) and actions (shake, turn, around, clap, sit down, stand up, sing, be quiet and bow).

Click in the title of the song and have fun!

  1. Hi Pili!

I agree with you that the singing activities are very motivating to learn a new language.

During my school practices as a trainer teacher I realize that, when the kids sing they improve and increase their vocabulay very fast and improve too the pronunciation.

    Best regards,

  2. Nice activity!

I like it to practice with my 1st and 2nd grade students. I think this song is very suitable for children in their first cycle of Primary Education because they learn easier and faster through the TPR (Total Physical Response) methodology. They do actions and they learn in an active way, which is one of our aims as English teachers.

  3. Dear Mª Pilar,

I completely agree with Mari Carmen and her comment. TPR activities are engaging and motivating for learners, specially for the youngest ones. This type of activities have several advantages, being the most important one the fact that students become aware of their body at the same time they take part in a real communicative process.

The idea of learning and doing, listening and doing in this case, has become really important among English teachers, since it allows learners to use the language with a real purpose, which is what language teaching is all about.
